Castalogue is a personal library app for cataloguing books and movies, along with their cast of characters. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.
Castalogue uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking tools. The app contains no third-party tracking SDKs.
Your library (items, characters, notes, attachments) is stored in your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so it syncs across your own devices. This data is processed under Apple's own privacy policy - the developer has no access to your private library.
If you choose to tap "Publish", the title, cover metadata, and the character descriptions you select become visible to other Castalogue users through a shared, public CloudKit database. Nothing is published automatically - you decide what to include, and you can uncheck characters with private notes before publishing.
The camera is used to scan ISBN barcodes and book covers. Scanning and text recognition happen on your device - no photos are sent to the developer.
The microphone is used only if you choose to record a voice note for an item in your catalog. Recordings are stored with your library (locally and via your private iCloud) and are never sent to the developer.
When you search by ISBN, title, or cover, the app queries external book databases - Google Books, Open Library, and, for Polish titles, LubimyCzytać - to fetch details such as title, author, and cover art. These services may receive your device's IP address under their own privacy policies. No other data is sent, and this only happens when you search.
The app offers no subscription - the only purchases are optional tips to the developer, handled by Apple via StoreKit. Payment and billing data is processed exclusively by Apple - the developer never has access to it.
The app may receive silent background notifications used solely to keep your iCloud library in sync. These are not used for marketing.
Settings and cached data are stored locally on your device and, where noted above, synced via your private iCloud account. None of it is transmitted to the developer.
The app collects no personal data on the developer's behalf, so it can be used by people of any age without additional privacy risk.
This policy may be updated occasionally. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
